I already know this isn’t going to historically accurate. People just go start at the beginning and read the early church fathers FIRST. Then go and find out all the lies and mythology of Luther and Calvin and then you’ll end up either Catholic or Orthodox. Protestantism is a lie. Thank God I am not a Protestant anymore.

Most people would call me a Calvinist because I don't believe you can lose your salvation.

I enjoyed listening to this. I'm not sure if I would be considered a Calvinist or a Armenian but I do know that when I get to heaven it will be by the grace of God through faith in Jesus. God gave me the faith to believe in Him.

I think that it is important to note that Augustine was not a monergist as demonstrated in Augustine's, “A Treatise on Grace and Freewill”. Augustine teaches that we do have freewill to act rightly (denied in monergism), though we cannot exercise it without first being moved by God’s grace. Therefore, my dearly beloved, as we have now proved by our former testimonies from Holy Scripture that there is in man a free determination of will for living rightly and acting rightly; so now let us see what are the divine testimonies concerning the grace of God, without which we are not able to do any good thing. @Christ Is the Cure, Thank you for trying to give an accurate account of the Catholic position. The nuances are crucial, and their dearth is damaging. First, what are the primary sources regarding Pope Leo X and Tetzel selling indulgences? I would like to read those. Trent acknowledges an abuse, but that is not because the Church officially taught the sale of indulgences. Instead, through evil intent and poor catechesis, abuses multiplied. This is not the same as the Church definitively teaching this. Second, Jesus did pay it all, and those in Christ are blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. It is God's will that we work out our salvation with fear and trembling, and after running the race, receive the Crown of life and our final salvation at the resurrection. The point is that we don't experience all the fullness of salvation at one moment. Third, the works that we do are "Christ in you, the hope of glory", or "Christ lives in me", “God who works in you,” and as Christ said of Himself "the Father who dwells in me does his works." The merits of the saints are the merits of Christ in that person because "God is glorified in His saints." Think about how God works through prayer to save, change, prompt, etc someone else. Now think about how our obedience affects the answering of our prayers (1 Jon 3:22, 1 Peter 3:7, James 5:16). It is a mystery of God work in us and through us. Fourth, the Pope cannot empty purgatory because that is now how things work. Those in purgatory can no longer merit. As you noted, they are in grace and heaven-bound, but they can receive helps through the Church militant as Christ works in them. It is not automatic, only those in the grace of Jesus, who fulfill certain requirements of faith, charity, and repentance can receive an indulgence, offer intentions at mass, etc. Finally, God disciplines us that we might share in his holiness (1 Cor 11:32, Heb 12:5-11). These are sons and saints He disciplines! Though born again and justified, we need God’s discipline and chastisement for our final salvation. This does not deny the Gospel.

My local Christian book shop had one of these left for cheap so I picked one up quick (as I think they might be out of print?). It’s definitely a interesting study bible. Compared to all the others I have it seems to really be in it’s own, stand alone category. Look forward to digging into it and seeing what it has to offer
